Where is remote sensing CV actually headed? 4 years in, about to start a PhD, and I'd like to be told I'm wrong

First post here. I've been doing computer vision research for about 4 years, mostly remote sensing - semantic segmentation and object detection on aerial and satellite imagery, plus a fair amount of real-time semantic segmentation where the accuracy/latency tradeoff is the whole problem. Trained and evaluated a lot of models on the usual benchmarks: Potsdam, Vaihingen, UAVid, LoveDA, DOTA. I'm starting a PhD now and I've been thinking hard about what's actually worth committing years to. Here's where I've landed. I'd like to hear where I'm wrong.
