Semantic Model refresh failure

Who designed this thing? Today I had to cleanup a PowerBi report. There was a mishmash of seven credentials to the same lakehouse. I replaced them with one. It worked fine on my machine. It verified. I published it, it worked. The first refresh worked. Then it decided that it needed the seven original connections that are no longer used and stopped refreshing. Asking me to create a new connection for each one. God damn it. Every time I touch Fabric something else is broken.
